How I got my neighbor’s phone number

I’ve always told my friends, “I think my neighbor is a former GRO.” She’s got that look, she’s at home all day, and she lives with what seems like a rich Japanese guy. I’m not a stalker, I just can’t help but notice. Especially after those late-night altercations heard all the way to our place (usually ending with sounds of broken glass from thrown breakables), I consciously took notice.

My mind started to wander. Call me a sick bastard, but I don’t think any man would ever decline even the minutest chance of becoming a boy next door. Not the boy next door charm, but literally, the “boy next door.”

I have moved all my smoking activities to outside our premises, hoping of some weird incident (or accident) waiting to happen that might lead me to at least something worthy of being called “small talk.” Nothing.

Enter MAPECON

Any idea what MAPECON is? It is a company that gets rid of home pests, bugs, mosquitoes through some sort of pesticide spraying. One day, there was this promotional MAPECON tour. They offered free spraying services to all the houses here in our village. One only needs to say “yes” and they will spray on. After spraying, you sign this piece of paper, leaving your name, house number and a contact number. Therefore, my house number minus (number of houses between me and GRO) = hopefully, a name and a phone number. Alas. And a personal cellphone number at that.
